The Trucking Alliance is a group of carriers that are concentrating on increasing regulations for safety within the industry. This year more freight transportation carriers are joining the ranks to get the word out there, because they too feel that there needs to be a higher importance for safety.
The initial Alliance was created in 2010 by the Arkansas Trucking Association because they wanted to help get the ball rolling with Congress on three imperative directives through the department of Transportation that have been held up for years. The legislation that they are focused on getting passed will be the means to creating safer trucks and safer driving conditions on the highways.
- 1) Have all trucks equipped with electronic logging devices in order to verify the actual on-duty hours for the drivers. This can help to prevent drivers from driving for extended periods of time outside the allowable and prevent accidents due to tiredness.
- 2) Create a clearinghouse that monitors applicants that initially failed a drug and alcohol test, and this could prevent previous failures from actually getting a job somewhere else.
- 3) Consider drug testing by way of hair a viable method for testing applicants. This could be seen as a more stringent way to test for drugs other than traditional means.
